What’s the goal here?
Brazen Careerist was most interested in implementing new layouts and design that would result in an increase in member registrations. After consulting with the team and talking through the site’s goals, we proposed a handful of new layouts.
Hey good lookin’
The Brazen Careerist brand had been well established at this point and looked great. But, we had a few ideas which the team was happy to entertain. After providing new page layouts in the form of wireframes, we worked on applying two very different visual styles to the homepage and blog post pages. These included everything from new navigation and button treatments, to subtle gradient shifts and hover elements. We arrived at a look that best matched the existing look and feel.
Home is where the heart is
So much of a website’s traffic ultimately lands on the homepage. We agreed that this would become the main focus of the project. With a new layout, dynamicly-updated content, and a refreshed design we succeeded in increasing the number of member registrations from the Brazen Careerist homepage. We feel the landing page said much more about what the site was about which convinces new visitors to join. The numbers agree.
What is this place?
The original home page included great descriptions about why to join; it was very convincing. We simply took this to the next level by demonstrating community members actively participating. This showed the kind of people, activity, and content that make joining the Brazen Careerist community a good idea. We also created a stylized about page to help organize some of the key concepts behind Brazen Careerist.
Clear call to actions
If you arrive on the home page, its very clear that you can connect with Facebook or sign in. Facebook Connect being one of the fastest ways to create a profile on most any site was given preferred treatment. At the same time, the ability to register is front-and-center and not hidden behind a lightbox or second page. The increased user registrations can easily be tied to design decisions like these.
Little things make a difference
While some pages are very content-dense, we arrived at the decision to maintain whitespace and keep the homepage fairly simple. By the same token, we were able to pack essential details using techniques including scroll-over text popups and a carousel.
