Progressive License Plugin

WordPress Plugin for Licensing Content

The good folks at RedMonk came to us in the summer of 2008 and wanted a WordPress plugin that would allow them to license their content differently based on it’s age. Their intention was to open source as much as their content as possible. On top of that, they wanted to release this plugin back into the community.

Giving back to the community

Since RedMonk wanted to release a plugin that everyone could use, this mean putting the plugin together a little differently. Including writing a readme, thorough testing for compatibility, and releasing it on WordPress.org.

User friendly timeline definition

As the user defines the license to be applied, complexity emerges when a date range is specified. Since we’re experts in both user interaction and WordPress development we combined our powers to create a user-friendly configuration page. JavaScript allowed for the user to quickly and easily set the license, see how far back it would apply and apply the settings immediately.

Licenses included, just add content

The Progressive License plugin includes built-in support for seven Creative Commons licenses including the machine code (that allows the license to be picked-up by web crawlers).

Build your own license

If desired, the user is also able to define their own license to be applied to their content. If one of the Creative Commons licenses doesn’t fit a need a publisher can insert a license by providing the name, an image and the machine code for the license.
