Lijit Search
A good search service provides relevant information that people trust. The Lijit Search widget and plugin are designed to help make online searching more similar to real life by allowing people to seek information from the networks of people they trust.
Lijit Search allows your visitors to search through not only your blog content, but also your extended social network. Essentially, you create your own search engine, populated with your own website, content you create for other websites, your blogroll, and any linked social networking accounts (photos, videos, delicious links, twitter, etc.). By allowing people to search through your blog, your content, and your network, you increase the liklihood that your readers will find useful information when searching your blog.
When you install the widget on your blog, all of these accounts are indexed and searchable through the widget. The default WordPress search widgit can be overridden by the Lijit wijit.
Integrate with default WordPress search
Lijit’s blog describes the new functionality best: “it looks like a normal search bar, but when you do a search, BAM! Search results brought to you courtesy of Lijit.” It was determined that instead of having to install any addition code or “widjit” in a sidebar, the user should simply log in through the settings page and configure it to, ahem, hijack, WordPress search. This means no more duplicate (confusing) search boxes and results with added relevancy and value.
End-to-end user interaction, never leave the dashboard
We determined that the user should never have to leave the comfort of the settings page to setup the plugin. New or existing users can signup and register from the dashboard, view their search statistics, and configure the search settings. In other words, we integrated the Lijit branding and style right into the WordPress dashboard.
