Victaulic: Enhanced Global User Experience

Achieving Near-Instant Filtering and 40% Faster Load Times

Victaulic, a global leader in mechanical pipe joining systems, relies on its website to serve a diverse international customer base. At the heart of this experience are thousands of multilingual technical documents, product sheets, and specifications.

Victaulic, a global leader in mechanical pipe joining systems, relies heavily on its website to serve a diverse customer base. A critical component is the Product Resource Library. This library houses thousands of technical documents, product literature, and specification sheets, often in multiple languages. It is an essential tool for engineers, contractors, and distributors seeking precise product information.

The Challenge: Sluggish Performance Hindered Access to Critical Resources

As Victaulic’s product offerings grew, their existing Resource Library faced significant challenges that impacted user experience and efficiency:

  1. Severe Performance Bottlenecks: The library page took 5-6 seconds or longer to load due to the sheer volume of resources and the 35 database queries required to fetch and display the necessary information and filtering options.
  2. Outdated User Experience: Existing sorting and filtering options had become cumbersome due to evolving classifications and accumulated content debt. User feedback indicated difficulties navigating the vast library effectively.
  3. Implementing Dynamic Filtering: Victaulic needed robust filtering based on dynamic product taxonomies to help users quickly pinpoint specific documents. However, adding this complex logic threatened to further degrade the already slow performance, as each individual filter checkbox would traditionally require new database queries and page re-renders.
  4. Lack of Mobile Optimization: The older table-based view was not designed for mobile devices, hindering access for users in the field.

Victaulic needed a solution that could handle complexity, deliver speed, enhance usability across all devices, and manage content debt, ensuring their customers could access vital information effortlessly.

The Solution: Innovative Front-End Architecture for Instantaneous Interaction

Crowd Favorite recognized an opportunity to fundamentally re-architect the Resource Library’s front-end interaction model while preserving the familiar WordPress content management experience for Victaulic’s team. Our strategy prioritized speed and usability:

  1. Streamlined Information Delivery: We implemented a smarter way to organize and deliver the library’s vast information to website visitors upfront. This happened behind the scenes, allowing the Victaulic team to continue managing content using their familiar WordPress system without disruption.
  2. Loading Data Efficiently: When a visitor first arrives at the Resource Library, all the necessary product information is loaded efficiently into their browser in one initial step.
  3. Modern, User-Friendly Interface: We designed and built a completely new, intuitive interface for the library. This new design was fully mobile-responsive, ensuring a great experience on any device, and incorporated the powerful filtering and sorting tools Victaulic needed.
  4. Instantaneous Filtering and Navigation: The key innovation was enabling the user’s own browser to handle tasks like filtering, sorting, or moving between pages almost instantly, using the information it had already loaded in memory. This eliminated the repeated, slow back-and-forth communication with the server that caused delays with the old architecture, making the entire experience fluid and responsive.

This approach allowed us to deliver the advanced functionality Victaulic required within a high-performance, user-centric design, directly addressing the previous bottlenecks without altering the established content workflow.

Drawing upon years of expertise, Crowd Favorite identified that a modern front-end architecture was the key to unlocking performance. By strategically implementing this approach, we transformed Victaulic’s Resource Library from a bottleneck into a highly performant, user-friendly asset. This allowed Victaulic to reinforce it’s commitment to providing excellent digital tools for its customers.
